Ford Flex is one of the unique models from their lineup. When it was first introduced, back in 2009, it was probably the first full-size CUV (crossover utility vehicle) to hit the US car market. At first, the sale of this model was not so great and Ford was thinking about stopping the production, even though the car was just introduced. Luckily, they have decided to update the Flex in 2013 and since then it is selling great. Now, the US manufacturer is preparing to unveil a next-generation of this CUV as the 2016 Ford Flex.
On the first glance it is quite noticeable that this model is different from all other cars on the market. The CUV has a boxy shape, which make it stand out from the crowd. The Flex is built on the Ford D4 Platform and it is available only with five doors. When it comes to the changes on the exterior, most notable are surely the newly designed headlights and the chrome grille, which appear to be one since the chrome bar that goes in the middle of the grille appears to be connecting the two headlights. The front bumper is redesigned and now fits better in the boxy design of the car. On the back it can be seen different taillights, slightly altered back door and the new rear bumper. Furthermore, the US manufacturer plans to offer Flex with new color options and alloy wheels with new design and bigger size.
Ford always offers cars from their lineup in different trim levels, so the 2016 Ford Flex will be offered in these trim levels: SE, SEL and Limited. One of the best features of Flex is the ability to take up to seven adult passengers, which is not something that most of the CUV can do. Depending on the trim level, the seats might be upholstered in standard fabric or more premium leather. The 2016 Flex does not have one, but it has two displays in the dashboard. First is the smaller, 4.2-inch that is located in front of the driver, while the second is the bigger, 8-inch display, used for control of the infotainment system and satellite navigation. Higher trim levels offer more features for the passengers in the back – there is a possibility of installing two LCD displays in headrests and three zone climate control.
Engine and specs
The 2016 Ford Flex will come with different engine in the base version. The current aspirated V6 is going to be replaced with 2.3l turbocharged V6 that should produce around 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. The top-of-the-range is going to come with 3.5l V6, which is significantly more powerful than the engine in the base version. Both versions will come with 6-speed automatic transmission, while the all-wheel drive is going to be optional.
2016 Ford Flex release date and price
The base version of the 2016 Ford Flex should cost around $29,000. This CUV should go on sale in the spring of the 2016.
